IAmA founder of CoinHako, the first local Bitcoin startup to get incubated in Silicon Valley, AMA!
Hey reddiporeans! Yusho from CoinHako here. I'm currently in the heart of the tech world with my co-founder, Gerry, going through an accelerator program by Boost VC. Together with us, there are ~20 other companies working on different ideas, with about 80% of them working on Bitcoin. Have you watched the TV series Silicon Valley? We are having the time of our lives right here with a whole bunch of crazy, awesome entrepreneurs, working 7 days a week in the hack "dungeon". I believe every entrepreneur is curious about the Silicon Valley life, so AMA! I will be taking time to answer your questions till 0000hrs PST. Below is the first “Lighthouse Watch,” a list of existing projects using the Lighthouse application to facilitate fundraising. The Lighthouse Keeper Project compiled this list. I relied on posts to / lighthousekeeper and / lighthouseprojects to populate the list. The list is extensive but not comprehensive. Some of these projects may have already passed their desired fundraising window. Others are relatively new. I did not go digging through the technical details available for each project to determine a historical order. The list is organized by percentage of sought funding pledged to date. As you’ll see, only one project has been fully funded. The next closest is currently at 20% funded. There are a few in the single digits. The majority have no pledges to date. There is no way to reliably analyze causes for low funding. However, the fully funded project was promoted by Lighthouse app developer Vinumeris, and the project at 20% is one of the more developed campaigns. Both are also tech centric. Lighthouse Keeper - Collecting, curating, and indexing Lighthouse fundraisers
/ r / lighthousekeepe Lighthouse Keeper invites individuals, groups, and organizations to use this subreddit to post information about projects using the Bitcoin powered crowdfunding application Lighthouse.* Posts may be for your personal project, your friends or colleagues project, or any project you want visitors to consider supporting. Because Lighthouse is a desktop application to which supporters must import project files, posts to the “Lighthouse Keeper” subreddit should include a brief description of the project and a link to the Lighthouse Project file. Contributors are encouraged to link to project websites, blogs, and other promotional media (e.g., YouTube videos). As always, only download files from trusted sources. Lighthouse Keeper is an effort to collect, index, and curate projects using the Lighthouse application. The beta version of the Lighthouse software was released on January 20, 2015, so, at the moment, we're all waiting to see what projects will be offered and how to move forward in this new stage of crowdfunding. We have some ideas about how to grow Lighthouse Keeper (e.g., hosting Lighthouse Project websites, publishing subject expert evaluations, and crowdsourced ratings metrics) and we welcome suggestions and offers to participate. However, please keep those conversations off the subreddit. We want to maintain the focus on the projects. Donations welcomed: 1Eedd5BmoXA5rzAH6fWm9R8WTVfLTjLx2T *“Lighthouse Keeper” is not affiliated with the Lighthouse project.

Getting started with Lighthouse and Lighthouse Keeper
This sticky (in development) introduces the Lighthouse app, how to use the Lighthouse Keeper subreddit, and news related to the Lighthouse Keeper project. Please post your Lighthouse Keeper comments, questions, critiques, and suggestions below. To keep the main section of this subreddit uncluttered and project focused, any posts not promoting a project using Lighthouse will be deleted or moved to this sticky. Thank you for your cooperation.
Lighthouse (which is currently in beta version) is an open source software application using Bitcoin’s block chain technology to facilitate all-or-nothing crowdfunding in a secure and decentralized manner though smart contracts. The Lighthouse application is essentially a Bitcoin wallet used to make pledges to a project. When the project’s target funding level is reached, the developer can move your pledged coins to his/her wallet. Prior to a project reaching its target goal, the developer cannot withdraw funds, but backers can pull their pledge. If a project does not reach its funding goal, no coins can be removed from your wallet. All of this is accomplished without an intermediary. All of the proceeding is great news, and a major advancement in crowdfunding, but it comes with a caveat: Lighthouse is a tool for facilitating crowdfunding. Lighthouse is not a crowdfunding platform. Unlike Kickstarter, Indigogo, Gofundme, or other sites that offer a suite of services (e.g., hosting, email, and payments) in user friendly packaging, Lighthouse is an independent and somewhat complicated application dedicated to the financial transaction. Use of Lighthouse requires that project creators have a good understanding of how Bitcoin works, and some basic technical computer skills. Furthermore, Lighthouse also demands that project backers have a degree of Bitcoin knowledge and computer proficiency. In short, at the present moment, fundraising with Lighthouse requires more knowledge, time, and skills than existing popular crowdfunding platforms. The challenges mentioned above are not insurmountable, and Lighthouse developers already have solutions for some of them. However, perhaps the greatest difficulty faced by creators and backers using the Lighthouse app is also the most basic: promoting and finding projects. The standalone nature of Lighthouse means that project creators must have the know-how and/or resources to independently market and manage the information side of their fundraisers. On the other end, the lack of a full service crowdfunding platform means that potential backers do not have a one-stop-shop where they can go to browse projects. In other words, Lighthouse does not have a built in match-maker and communication channel(s) to create and sustain the funding relationship. This is where Lighthouse Keeper steps in.
Lighthouse Keeper is a service that connects project creators with project backers. Presently, we are working to provide a space where creators and backers can easily promote and learn about fundraising campaigns. Our initial efforts are focused on maintaining an uncluttered list of projects from around the world that potential funders can easily navigate. As the number of creators using Lighthouse to help fund their work increases, Lighthouse Keeper will grow as well. In time, Lighthouse Keeper will establish an independent presence on the web (i.e., build a website) where we will be able to provide additional resources to creators and backers. Future plans for Lighthouse Keeper include indexing and curating of project lists, project search functions, crowdsource project ratings and other metrics, and hosting (or working with server hosts) to provide tools that make running fundraisers using Lighthouse easier (e.g., publishing platform, mailing lists, etc.).
[Draft text] Minimum information Post a Text post. Don't simply post a link to your Lighthouse Project file. Provide a brief description of the project and your fundraising goals. Tell users what is the minimum BTC pledge to support your project. (See Lighthouse for more information on minimum pledges.) Provide a link to the Lighthouse Project file. (Of course, users should only download files from trusted sources) Other information You are encouraged to link to your project website(s), blog(s), and other promotional media (e.g., YouTube videos).
We welcome comments, questions, critiques, suggestions and offers to help Lighthouse Keeper help creators and backers promote and discover projects. However, please keep those conversations to this sticky or private messages. We want the main page of this subreddit to contain only posts about projects people are seeking to fund so that potential backers (and the community at-large) can easily see what is developing. Any posts not promoting a project using Lighthouse will be deleted or coped to this sticky by the moderators. Donations to Lighthouse Keeper welcomed: 1Eedd5BmoXA5rzAH6fWm9R8WTVfLTjLx2T
